Indonesia-based venture capital firm East Ventures and Seoul-based venture capital firm SV Investment have joined forces to establish a new fund targeted at $100 million. The primary goal of this fund is to promote investment opportunities and collaboration between Southeast Asia and South Korea, bridging the gap between the two dynamic tech ecosystems.
This fund’s vision is to offer financial support, build investment connections, share knowledge, and facilitate networking opportunities between Southeast Asian and Korean businesses for the growth and innovation of both regions’ tech landscapes.
The collaborative fund launched by East Ventures and SV Investment will focus its investments on promising startups across various sectors, particularly biotechnology and healthcare, future mobility, green technology, and the media and content industries.
Roderick Purwana, Managing Partner of East Ventures, expressed his satisfaction with the SV Investment partnership. He highlighted the strong synergy between East Ventures’ profound knowledge of the startup ecosystem in Indonesia and Southeast Asia and SV Investment’s extensive experience in the South Korean market.
East Ventures, established in 2009, has an impressive track record of supporting more than 300 technology companies. Earlier this year, East Ventures invested in tech ventures through its $250 million for Growth Fund. The dedicated fund focuses on the growth of existing portfolio companies that have reached the growth stage.
In 2022 alone, East Ventures disbursed capital over 80 times yearly. The firm manages funds of $960 million to drive technological innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. Melisa Irene, a Partner at East Ventures, shared that the company currently has an Asset Under Management (AUM) valued at $1 billion.
On the other hand, SV Investment, founded in 2006, has an extensive portfolio of over 220 companies and a strong presence in South Korea and on the global stage.
With its headquarters in Seoul, Korea, SV Investment has established international offices in key tech hubs, including Boston, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Jakarta. The firm is popular among the venture capital and private equity landscape, with each managing assets totaling approximately $1.5 billion.
SV Investment’s comprehensive investment approach spans various sectors, including Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT), consumer and entertainment, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.
David Junghun Bang, Managing Partner of SV Investment, expressed his views on Southeast Asia’s immense potential, with Indonesia spearheading regional economic growth as the largest economy in the area.
“I am confident that SV Investment’s proven investment experience in the technology industry, as well as East Ventures’ extensive portfolio and network, will bring positive changes to the venture ecosystem in Korea and Southeast Asia,” Bang stated.
