SLINGSHOT 2026 Expands Its Role in Singapore’s Global Innovation Strategy Ahead of SWITCH 2026

A global deep-tech competition by Enterprise Singapore offers startups structured access to investors, corporates, and market opportunities through SWITCH 2026

SLINGSHOT 2026 has opened applications for its 10th edition, marking a key entry point for deep-tech startups seeking to engage with Singapore’s innovation ecosystem ahead of the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) 2026. Organized by Enterprise Singapore, the competition has evolved beyond a conventional pitch format into a structured pipeline that connects startups with investors, corporates, and ecosystem stakeholders within a globally connected hub.

At the center of this positioning is SWITCH 2026, scheduled to take place from October 27 to 29 at Marina Bay Sands. As one of Asia’s flagship innovation events, SWITCH brings together startups, investors, corporates, and policymakers, creating a platform where global innovation intersects with regional market access. Within this broader framework, SLINGSHOT functions as the competitive and selection layer—identifying startups that are not only innovative, but also ready to scale within international markets.

Ahead of the main event, Enterprise Singapore has introduced a series of official webinar briefings, providing startups with an early introduction to both the competition and the Singapore ecosystem.

Two sessions are scheduled:

  • April 13, 2026 at 8:00 AM SGT
  • May 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM SGT

These webinars go beyond procedural guidance. They offer founders an overview of how Singapore structures startup support, how SLINGSHOT fits within SWITCH, and what evaluators expect from applicants. For startups unfamiliar with Singapore’s ecosystem, this serves as an early alignment step—helping founders refine their positioning before entering a competitive selection process.

A Structured Selection Funnel for Global Deep-Tech Startups

SLINGSHOT 2026 is designed as a multi-stage selection process that progressively narrows a global applicant pool into a highly curated group of finalists. Applications are open from March 6 to June 30, 2026, with startups required to submit a detailed presentation outlining their solution, market, and business model. Shortlisted candidates move through additional evaluation stages before the final cohort is selected.

From this process, the Top 50 Global Startups are invited to Singapore for a Physical Immersion Programme from October 22 to 24. This phase includes ecosystem briefings, mentorship, site visits, and direct engagement with investors and corporate partners.

The competition culminates during SWITCH 2026:

  • Domain Finals: October 27–28
  • Grand Finals: October 29

At this stage, startups pitch live, with the Top 10 finalists competing for the Grand Winner title.

This structure reflects a deliberate shift from open exposure to selection-driven engagement, where startups are evaluated for scalability, investability, and global relevance.

SWITCH 2026 as a Platform for Ecosystem Integration

While SLINGSHOT serves as the entry pipeline, SWITCH functions as the broader platform where these startups are positioned. Unlike standalone conferences, SWITCH integrates multiple layers of engagement—ranging from exhibitions and stage sessions to curated networking and partnership discussions. This creates an environment where startups can move beyond initial introductions and into more substantive conversations with ecosystem stakeholders.

For international founders, this is particularly significant. Singapore’s role as a regional hub means that engagement at SWITCH often extends beyond the local market, providing access to Southeast Asia and broader Asia-Pacific opportunities.

In this context, SLINGSHOT finalists are not simply presenting on stage—they are entering a platform designed to facilitate cross-border collaboration and long-term market integration.

Why This Matters for Founders Building for Global Scale

For founders, SLINGSHOT offers a structured pathway into a globally connected ecosystem, particularly for companies operating in deep-tech and infrastructure-heavy sectors. The program is designed around progressive engagement. Startups begin with early alignment through webinars, move into evaluation and selection, and then enter the ecosystem through the immersion programme before reaching the final stage at SWITCH.

This progression allows founders to:

  • Refine their positioning against global benchmarks,
  • Initiate early conversations with investors and corporates, and
  • Build traction within Southeast Asia through Singapore as a hub.

Importantly, this reduces the need to navigate the ecosystem independently. Instead of approaching investors or partners in isolation, startups engage within a structured environment where access is coordinated and expectations are clearly defined. For companies preparing for international expansion, this creates a more efficient pathway from introduction to meaningful engagement.

Why SLINGSHOT Is a Stage Worth Watching

For investors, corporates, and ecosystem participants, SLINGSHOT provides a curated view of emerging deep-tech innovation. The multi-stage selection process ensures that startups reaching the final stage have already been assessed across key dimensions, including technical depth, business viability, and growth potential. As a result, the SLINGSHOT stage functions as a filtered signal of high-potential companies, rather than a broad discovery platform.

Equally important is the timing of engagement. Much of the interaction between startups and ecosystem stakeholders takes place during the immersion phase, before the final pitches. By the time companies present at SWITCH, many have already initiated discussions around partnerships, pilots, or investment. For attendees, this shifts the role of the stage. It becomes less about identifying raw opportunities and more about observing startups that have already been partially integrated into the ecosystem and are now presenting refined, market-aligned propositions.

A Coordinated Approach to Startup Attraction

Taken together, SLINGSHOT 2026 and SWITCH 2026 reflect a broader strategy within Singapore’s innovation ecosystem. Rather than relying on open participation alone, the model emphasizes structured pathways—where startups are identified, evaluated, and integrated through coordinated programs led by public agencies such as Enterprise Singapore.

This approach allows Singapore to:

  • Attract high-quality global startups,
  • Connect them with capital and corporate partners, and
  • Position them within a broader regional growth framework.

For startups, this means access is not random, but designed—making the ecosystem more predictable and navigable. SLINGSHOT 2026 ultimately represents more than a competition. It is part of a broader system that connects global innovation with Singapore’s role as a regional hub. By the time startups reach the SWITCH stage, they are no longer simply pitching ideas—they are engaging with an ecosystem that has already begun evaluating, supporting, and positioning them for growth.

For founders, investors, and ecosystem participants alike, this integration of selection, preparation, and platform access defines the value of SLINGSHOT within SWITCH 2026—and underscores Singapore’s evolving role in shaping global startup pathways.

How to Apply to SLINGSHOT 2026

Applications for SLINGSHOT 2026 are currently open to startups globally as part of the competition’s global call phase, which runs from March 6 to June 30, 2026. The program is designed for startups with a minimum viable product and a clearly defined business model, particularly those operating in deep-tech domains and preparing for international expansion.

To apply, startups are required to submit a presentation in English outlining key aspects of their business, including the problem being addressed, the proposed solution, market opportunity, business model, traction, and team capabilities. Shortlisted applicants may be required to provide additional materials in subsequent stages, such as a video pitch or participate in evaluation interviews.

The selection process is structured to progressively identify high-potential startups. Following the initial screening, selected teams advance through multiple evaluation rounds before the final cohort is determined. From this pool, the Top 50 Global Startups are invited to Singapore for the Physical Immersion Programme, with the opportunity to pitch live during SWITCH 2026.

Enterprise Singapore also encourages prospective applicants to attend the official SLINGSHOT webinar sessions prior to submission. These sessions provide clarity on evaluation criteria, ecosystem expectations, and how the competition aligns with broader opportunities within SWITCH.
