On Tuesday, Superb AI announced it had raised $10.2 million in a Series C funding round led by the corporate venture arm of Doosan Group, South Korea’s oldest conglomerate, which has been operational for 128 years. Additionally, the company received the Select Developer designation from Cisco Systems, recognizing it as a partner that develops AI solutions on Cisco’s platform to foster joint business models.
In the recent funding round, Superb AI attracted investment from notable participants, including Hyundai Motor, Samsung Next, and Kakao Investment, as well as existing backers.
The funding will be used for general working capital as the startup prepares for a public listing in South Korea in 2026. Furthermore, Superb AI plans to integrate its AI models with Cisco’s network equipment to serve clients in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, security, and healthcare, leveraging Cisco’s hardware and global sales network to broaden its client reach.
Superb AI, a South Korean startup founded in 2018 by Hyun Kim, Moonsu Cha, and Jung Kwon Lee, is dedicated to addressing the challenge of producing high-quality labeled data for machine learning models in an efficient and precise manner. With the increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning applications, the necessity for large volumes of accurately labeled data has emerged as a significant hurdle, particularly for intricate models that require a deep understanding of context.
Recognizing the critical need in the industry, Superb AI set out to democratize AI development by providing scalable, streamlined data-labeling solutions for both established tech companies and emerging startups.
One of the founders, Hyunsoo Kim, brought his expertise in deep learning, robotics, and machine learning engineering to address the urgent demand for a smarter, automated approach to training data. This vision led to establishing the Superb AI Suite, designed to be the most comprehensive and advanced machine learning data management platform in the industry.
Its key feature at the outset was the ability to learn from human labelers and adjust based on their input, resulting in a semi-automated labeling process. This approach greatly minimizes the requirement for human involvement by predicting and recommending labels, particularly for high-volume tasks, marking a shift away from traditional labeling services that predominantly depend on manual labor.
This financial support enabled the startup to expand its operations and enhance its platform, focusing on tool sophistication and growing its engineering and R&D teams. As its client base expanded, so did the demand for customization, leading to the introduction of new features such as collaborative workflows, quality control tools, and real-time project monitoring.
Looking ahead, Superb AI aims to broaden its scope beyond data labeling, aspiring to manage the entire AI lifecycle from training to deployment. This strategy includes developing unsupervised and semi-supervised learning techniques to enable models to autonomously label data, thereby simplifying the AI process for resource-limited organizations.
