Malaysian agritech and nanotech startup Qarbotech has successfully raised $1.5 million in funding to expand its operations across Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This funding will enable Qarbotech to address the increasing demand for agritech solutions in these markets.
Notable investors participated in the investment round, including 500 Global, Better Bite Ventures, EQT Foundation, ID Capital, and Epic Angels Limited.
The recent seed extension round will enable Qarbotech to strengthen its foothold in critical markets, including Malaysia, while expanding into Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with rising demand for advanced agritech solutions.
Chor Chee Hoe, CEO of Qarbotech, highlighted their flagship product, QarboGrow. This photosynthesis enhancer is formulated with a safe, organic compound similar to chlorophyll, which allows plants to photosynthesize more effectively, resulting in substantial increases in crop yields.
“We believe that QarboGrow can be a game changer in Southeast Asia to confront the pressing challenges of food security in the face of climate change,” he stated.
Qarbotech is establishing its first factory in Puchong, Malaysia, to support its regional growth. This facility will be equipped with technology, enabling the production of 100,000 liters of QarboGrow each month.
Amirul Merican, Qarbotech’s COO, stated, “This new facility will not only increase our production capacity but also enable us to meet the growing demand across Southeast Asia more efficiently.”
Khailee Ng, Managing Partner at 500 Global, emphasized the potential of Qarbotech’s technology, noting that it could secure additional funding to enhance crop yields by 60% in regions vulnerable to climate change. The backing from notable investors such as 500 Global, Better Bite Ventures, ID Capital, EQT Foundation, and Epic Angels Limited underscores Qarbotech’s mission and technology confidence.
Dr. Muhammad Reza Hani, CEO of PT Iceh Agro Indonesia, expressed his views on the collaborations with Qarbotech to support Indonesian farmers. He stated, “We are excited to distribute the QarboGrow photosynthesis enhancer in Indonesia. Our pilot project in Aceh, covering 400 hectares of rice fields, has shown the effectiveness of QarboGrow in boosting rice yields and increasing farmers’ income.” This partnership highlights the positive impact of Qarbotech’s technology on local agriculture.
Michal Klar, Founding Partner at Better Bite Ventures, also praised Qarbotech’s mission. He noted, “Qarbotech embodies our commitment to support a more sustainable, climate-friendly food system through transformative technology—improving economic outcomes while significantly reducing emissions. We are excited to back this dynamic team and their journey to transform the global food system.”
