NVIDIA has acquired Brev.dev, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in AI and machine learning development platforms. This is NVIDIA’s fourth acquisition this year, and the company has shown a strategic focus on expanding its presence in the AI market.
Brev.dev provides a platform designed to simplify the building, training, and deploying AI and machine learning models on CPU and GPU cloud instances. NVIDIA confirmed the acquisition, emphasizing the platform’s ability to streamline the development process for AI and machine learning models across various cloud providers.
Brev.dev, founded in 2021, was built by developers for developers to address the challenges of scaling machine learning projects. It enables the execution of any code on GPU instances, facilitating comprehensive training and deployment of ML models in the cloud.
CEO and co-founder Nader Khalil highlighted their journey, saying, “We started Brev in my parents’ garage to build the best damn developer experience possible.”
By unifying access to major cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, and Fluidstack, Brev.dev provides cost-efficient solutions for developers’ GPU needs. NVIDIA’s acquisition will enhance Brev’s mission by combining powerful hardware with software, streamlining the process for AI/ML developers to utilize GPUs effectively. Brev.dev expressed this in a LinkedIn post, stating, “Teaming up with Nvidia means being able to deliver on that mission by pairing the most powerful hardware with the industry-leading software.”
With the acquisition, NVIDIA plans to support its DGX Cloud service, which offers enterprises the necessary tools, support, and infrastructure for building generative AI applications.
Launched last year, DGX Cloud provides highly efficient GPU solutions and operates on platforms such as AWS, starting at $19,699 monthly. This acquisition aligns with NVIDIA’s goal to enhance its cloud infrastructure business, which is essential for AI development through a combination of software and services.
The head of AI/ML at Brev, Ishan Dhanani, also expressed his enthusiasm about NVIDIA’s acquisition, emphasizing the potential for accelerated innovation and growth within the company.
In April, the company bought Run, an Israeli startup specializing in Kubernetes-based workload management and orchestration software, for approximately $700 million. This acquisition aims to enhance the services offered to DGX and HGX server customers.
Earlier this month, NVIDIA acquired Shoreline.io, a Redwood City-based startup providing automatic data center issue resolution software, for about $100 million. Additionally, NVIDIA acquired Deci, another Israeli startup, for around $300 million. Deci’s software optimizes AI model evaluation efficiency without compromising performance, aligning with NVIDIA’s goal of strengthening its AI and cloud infrastructure capabilities.
