Indonesian Cloud Kitchen Startup Yummy Raises US$7.75m in Series A

Two-year-old Indonesian catering and cloud solutions startup Yummy Corp announced that it has secured US$7.75 million in a Series A funding that it will use to increase the quality of food and customer experience.

In a statement, the Jakarta-based startup said the funding round was co-anchored by Sinarmas Digital Ventures and Intudo Ventures and backed by East Ventures, Agaeti Ventures, Sovereign’s Capital, and Selera Kapital by Sour Sally Group.

Established in 2017, Yummy Corp offers two services – catering solutions and cloud kitchen. Its catering solutions cater to companies that need on-premise foodservice. The startup can operate the company’s kitchen and cateferia.

On the other hand, its cloud kitchen business – Yummykitchen – delivers food to customers from over 25 cloud kitchen locations in the Greater Jakarta Area. The startup also recently acquired Berrykitchen, the first and largest online catering company in the country.

The startup said it currently serves upwards of 10,000 meals daily and has more than 3,000 menus to create “a more enjoyable lunch” with a “touch of lifestyle” in the office.

“Our main focus is the customers, and by adding wide-reaching distribution points we aim to ensure that the customers can experience faster delivery experience and fresher food to be enjoyed anywhere the customer orders,” said Yummy Corp CEO Mario Suntanu.

Yummy Corp operates in a highly-competitive cloud kitchen market in Indonesia. Recently GOJEK-backed Indian cloud kitchen startup Rebel Foods announced in August its plan to build 100 Indonesian cloud kitchens. A number of cloud kitchen startups also make their way in other markets in the region, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Cloud kitchen is starting to boost its popularity in Southeast Asia as more people prefer ordering food than cooking on their own. Early this month, GrabFood, the food delivery arm of Singapore-headquartered ride-hailing giant Grab, announced the expansion of its cloud kitchen network – GrabKitchen – to Bangkok, Thailand and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
