Sony Network Communications, a subsidiary of the renowned Japanese tech and entertainment giant, has invested $3.5 million in Startale Labs, a promising web3 startup.
This investment, facilitated through a private placement of new shares, is expected to be utilized to develop crucial infrastructure for the global adoption of web3. As part of this collaboration, Jun Watanabe, President and Representative Director of Sony Network Communications, has joined Startale Labs as a director.
With this partnership, both companies look forward to exploring collaborative investment opportunities that will further accelerate the mass adoption of web3 technologies.
Earlier this year, the two companies partnered with Astar Network, a Polkadot-based smart contract platform in Japan. Together, they co-hosted a Web3 Incubation Program to support and nurture web3 projects focused on enhancing the utility of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
In addition to building infrastructure and expanding their web3 offerings, a portion of the newly acquired funds will be allocated toward recruiting skilled professionals.
Based in Singapore, Startale Labs is dedicated to bringing blockchain technology to individuals and businesses in Japan, with a vision of establishing “Web3 for Billions.” Currently, there is a lack of infrastructure and tools that allow companies to seamlessly integrate their existing tech stack with the Web3 ecosystem.
While specialized players exist in various industries, such as wallets, indexers, and node providers, there is still a need for all-in-one solutions. Startale Labs and Sony Network Communications will collaborate to address these challenges and bridge the gap between real-world assets and the Web3 ecosystem.
Startale Labs’ web3 presence extends beyond Japan, with notable contributions to Astar Network. Nevertheless, its primary focus has been on the Japanese market, where it has emerged as the leading blockchain platform in the country.
Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Labs, expressed excitement about the new collaboration with Sony Network. “We are honored to enter into this partnership with Sony Network Communications,” he stated.
The CEO sees tremendous potential in the Web3 space for Sony Network. “We can’t wait to collaborate on tapping into that. We look forward to collaborating with Sony Network Communications to develop global Web3 infrastructure and create groundbreaking Web3 use cases,” he added.
Sony Network Communications, a prominent provider of high-speed fiber optic internet services, has demonstrated its involvement in the Web3 space through various projects. One notable initiative comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment, the renowned video game company responsible for the popular PlayStation brand.
Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a patent in March 2023, introducing a system that enables users to seamlessly transfer and utilize nonfungible tokens (NFTs) across multiple gaming platforms.
Jun Watanabe, President and Executive Officer of Sony Network Communications Inc., said, “I am excited to further strengthen our collaboration with Startale Labs, a company with advanced Web3 technologies and expertise.”
“We believe this partnership will contribute to the creation of new groundbreaking Web3 use cases and deliver unprecedented value,” he added.
