Cosmos Innovation, a Singapore-based AI-first firm specializing in developing next-gen perovskite silicon tandem (PST) solar cell technology, has successfully secured $19.7 million in total funding. This achievement was the result of a Series A funding round.
The Series A round, as announced by Cosmos Innovation, was led by Xora Innovation, a deep-tech investment platform that operates as part of Temasek, a global investment company.
Cosmos Innovation’s Series A round also witnessed participation from various notable investors. Innovation Endeavors is the very entity that spearheaded the seed round. Further strengthening the funding are Two Sigma Ventures, a distinguished participant in the investment round, and DeepMind’s CEO, Demis Hassabis.
In addition, the round saw the engagement of Tomaso Poggio, an MIT professor and a founding figure in computational neuroscience. Also contributing is Richard Socher, a researcher specializing in natural language processing (NLP), who serves as the CEO of You.com and holds the mantle of Managing Partner at AIX Ventures.
Moreover, this financial achievement comes concurrently with Cosmos Innovation’s launch of “Mobius,” an AI recipe optimization platform for various industries, including solar, silicon carbide, advanced data center chips, and advanced packaging.
Cosmos Innovation, established in 2022, has emerged in solar and semiconductor process development domains. The company uses artificial intelligence (AI) to impact perovskite silicon tandem technology, known for its capacity to generate exceptionally efficient solar cells.
Founded by Vijay Chandrasekhar, who currently serves as the CEO, and Joel Li, Cosmos Innovation’s CTO, the company represents the collective efforts in AI, semiconductors, and solar industries.
The founders, Vijay Chandrasekhar and Joel Li have extensive experience in leadership roles within specialized engineering teams, having served at prominent research institutes.
Vijay Chandrasekhar, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Cosmos Innovation spoke to the media while announcing the recent round. “Our innovative AI process optimization platform enables us to accelerate the once-in-a-lifetime platform shift to perovskite silicon tandem technology in the solar industry,” he stated.
Cosmos Innovation utilized AI to address the combinatorial explosion in optimizing semiconductor and solar cell processes. Joel Li, the firm’s Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, highlights the successful deployment of their proprietary AI system, Mobius, which has demonstrated its ability to accelerate process optimization by an astonishing tenfold.
Mobius has showcased its capabilities across diverse sectors: solar, silicon carbide, advanced data center chips, and advanced packaging. The platform aligns seamlessly with the company’s ambitious mission to construct the world’s inaugural self-learning fab within the solar and semiconductor domains.
