Stilt Studios, the Indonesian startup renowned for its innovative prefabricated modular homes, has successfully concluded a series A funding round, raising $10 million through a blend of debt and equity investments. This financing round was led by Christian Hymer, who hails from the family that founded Hymer, a prominent German motorhome manufacturer.

Based in Bali, Indonesia, Stilt Studios specializes in creating sustainable and modular homes. The immediate focus revolves around establishing a strong presence in Australia, with plans extending to Europe and the United States.

The injection of capital will fuel the startup’s expansion across international markets. Stilt Studios plans to allocate resources to enhance its platform, integrating artificial intelligence capabilities designed to streamline the production processes of its modular homes and elevate the overall customer experience.

Established in 2019 by Florian Holm, a German serial entrepreneur, Stilt Studios helps individuals configure an array of structures, including cabins, studios, and multi-story family homes, using standard components – likened to assembling Lego bricks.

Their products are constructed on a modular platform that affords diverse design and customization possibilities. Stilt Studios homes are crafted using elevated structures and renewable materials, reducing land usage and resulting in significantly lower carbon emissions than their conventional counterparts.

The primary building materials consist of high-quality teak and bengkirai wood. The system drastically reduces installation times, taking merely one to two months per house, starkly contrasting the year or more often required for traditional construction.

Furthermore, the construction methods embraced by Stilt Studios bring about notable reductions in noise disturbances during the building process. According to Holm, the only noisy aspect is the foundation work.

Stilt Studios’ design choices shrink the embedded carbon footprint, with emissions at least 50% smaller than those of equivalent conventional buildings. Their elevated design further reduces the need for ground sealing by a minimum of 90%.

“We wanted to offer one solution to the highly inefficient housing market,” said Florian Holm, CEO of Stilt Studios, known as the co-founder of Lazada.

Stilt Studios is steadily progressing with its expansion endeavors, with the Australian market already within its sights and construction projects slated to commence later this year.

The company has captured the attention of prospective clients’ attention in Australia and its home base, Indonesia, across Europe and the United States. Their plans have translated into tangible results, with over 50 houses successfully built and 80% completed within the past year.

The Family Village Canggu, a residential development housing 25 family villas, is one of their most significant undertakings. Looking ahead, Stilt Studios is set to venture into constructing its maiden commercial office building, a project scheduled for early 2024.
