Why BEYOND Expo 2026 Is Betting on Embodied AI

As the AI industry shifts from digital interfaces to real-world deployment, BEYOND Expo 2026 is placing physical AI at the center of the conversation. From humanoid robotics to smart infrastructure, the event reflects a broader industry push toward AI integrated into the physical world.

BEYOND Expo 2026 is less than two weeks away, and the agenda it has built reflects a clear argument: the most consequential phase of AI development is no longer happening inside software. It is happening in robots, factories, vehicles, medical devices, and consumer hardware. From May 27 to 30, The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo will host what organizers are calling Asia’s most ambitious edition of the event yet, with the theme “AI: Digital to Physical” anchoring a program that spans humanoid robotics, autonomous mobility, AI-integrated hardware, enterprise agentic workflows, and industrial infrastructure.

The 2026 edition is expected to bring together more than 30,000 attendees, 1,200 exhibitors, over 360 speakers across 220 sessions, and participants from Greater China, the US, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Those numbers represent a significant jump from 2024’s 20,000 attendees and reflect five years of consistent growth. Across its first five editions, BEYOND Expo has recorded more than 90,000 in-person attendees, 9.5 million virtual participants, over 1,700 exhibitors, and 600 investors.

From Software to the Physical World

For the past two years, the global AI conversation was dominated by large language models, generative content tools, and consumer-facing AI applications. The competitive energy concentrated almost entirely around model performance, multimodal reasoning, and software interfaces. That phase produced real breakthroughs. It also produced a specific kind of limitation: intelligence confined to screens.

BEYOND Expo 2026 is betting the industry is now moving past that.

“Asia is entering a more mature phase of AI innovation,” said Dr. Lu Gang, Co-founder of BEYOND Expo. “The region is now producing companies with real depth and global relevance.”

That maturity is visible in where capital and engineering talent are flowing. Humanoid robotics startups are attracting billions in investment. Autonomous logistics systems are scaling across warehousing and transportation. AI-powered manufacturing platforms are being adopted across industrial supply chains. The frontier is shifting from generating intelligence to deploying it, and deployment into physical environments introduces an entirely different layer of complexity, one that requires hardware integration, real-time sensing, edge computing, operational safety, and scalable infrastructure.

This is where embodied AI enters the picture. Unlike software AI, which processes inputs and produces digital outputs, embodied AI systems must perceive, decide, and act within physical environments, continuously and often autonomously. The systems being built today, across robotics, smart manufacturing, intelligent mobility, and AI-integrated devices, are the early expression of that capability at commercial scale.

The “AI: Digital to Physical” theme frames this as the defining arc of the current moment in technology. It is not a speculative bet on what AI might become. It is a reflection of where engineering investment, industrial deployment, and capital are already moving.

Confirmed Speakers and What They Signal

The opening ceremony lineup reinforces the embodied AI focus. Deepu Talla, Vice President of Robotics and Edge AI at NVIDIA, will speak at the Opening Ceremony, bringing the perspective of the company whose computing infrastructure underpins a significant share of current AI development globally. NVIDIA’s involvement extends beyond the stage: on May 26, the day before the expo opens, the company will host the NVIDIA Inception Showcase in Macao, a dedicated startup ecosystem event focused on AI agents, physical AI, and global expansion, featuring startup showcases and roundtable discussions drawing on insights from GTC 2026.

Felix Zhang, Founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics, will also speak at the Opening Ceremony. Pudu has deployed more than 120,000 robots across over 80 countries and regions, making it one of the most globally scaled service robotics companies operating today. Zhang is expected to address the future of embodied AI and what the next phase of robotics commercialization looks like in practice, drawing on Pudu’s recently introduced embodied AI foundation model, PuduFM 1.0.

The presence of both NVIDIA and Pudu Robotics at the opening is not incidental. Together, they represent the two layers that embodied AI requires: the computing infrastructure and the physical deployment platform.

A Program Built Around Capital and Cross-Border Access

Beyond the main stage, BEYOND Expo 2026 is structured around several programs that make it relevant beyond a single stakeholder type. The Global Investment Summit on May 29 will convene more than 900 top-tier international investors, 150 Asian tech giants, and 200 unicorn founders and executives, alongside closed-door sessions designed to connect capital with high-growth technology opportunities across the region.

Fund at First Pitch, a returning program, connects early-stage Asian startups directly with more than 200 global investors, including institutional investors, venture capital firms, and family offices. The GBA Innovation Tour is a new addition for 2026, giving international attendees direct behind-the-scenes access to Greater Bay Area manufacturing and innovation infrastructure. For companies trying to understand how AI moves from prototype to commercial product in China’s industrial ecosystem, this is a rare on-the-ground opportunity.

The full program also includes the AI Summit, Wealth Summit, BGlobal Summit, SheTech Summit, Founder Talks, SportsTech Forum, Gen Z Forum, Web3 + AI Forum, Regional Cooperation Forums, BEYOND Awards, and Media Day. In 2025, Media Day drew more than 100 global media outlets, with coverage from Bloomberg TV, CNN, FOX News Channel, Caixin Global, and Phoenix TV.

Why Asia’s Role in Physical AI Could Be Different

Much of the generative AI boom was led by a small number of US-based foundation model companies. Physical AI has a different geography. The industries required to build, test, and scale embodied AI systems, including semiconductor manufacturing, advanced electronics, robotics supply chains, batteries, industrial automation, and large-scale manufacturing, are deeply concentrated across Asia.

China, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore have spent decades accumulating expertise in these areas. As AI becomes more integrated into physical systems, those existing industrial ecosystems may become central to how the next phase of the industry actually scales. The companies that dominate physical AI deployment may not be the same ones leading the race in frontier models. They may be the ones with the manufacturing depth, supply chain control, and real-world deployment infrastructure to bring intelligence into operational environments at scale.

BEYOND Expo’s positioning in Macao, at the edge of the Greater Bay Area and within reach of the region’s densest industrial clusters, is not incidental. It reflects where the work is actually being done.
