Rivigo is a supply chain and logistics startup based out of Gurugram, India. They provide logistics services to food, clothing, pharmaceutical and other businesses, and are changing the game for the industry.
Founded by Deepak Garg and Gazal Kalra in 2014, they utilize a relay-based trucking system that employs pit stops between major trips. This improves the work schedule of truckers drastically, and increases efficiency in the long run.
Truck drivers drive long distances for trips that usually took them days to complete. This would mean that they wouldn’t be able to return during regular hours, and would have to work for extended periods for a single trip. Most drivers would be on the road for weeks, and this was a detriment to their health as well as their efficiency.
As a result of such a gruelling work culture, truckers don’t tend to love what they do. A survey by the Save Life Foundation found that 84% of them would not recommend their jobs to a family member. This leads to a decline in the workforce over the long run, especially in a sector that is the lifeblood of almost every industry.
Rivigo aims to drastically alter this pattern and revolutionize the road freight market. By deploying technology via their platform, they have implemented a relay system, allowing truckers to take over shipments for shorter, more frequent trips. Unlike the traditional sector, each driver will go on 4-5 hour-long trips, from pit stop to pit stop. Here, they will tag out, allowing the next driver to take over, and then to go back home.
Truckers use the Rivigo app for their work, which is more image-based than text and is available in 11 languages. It tracks everything that the pilot needs to do, from alerting them regarding their trip, all the way to drop-offs and surveys.
They have implemented a QR code system through which pilots alert other pilots via the app. By scanning them at the pit stop, the alerts are sent to the next driver. The code also transfers the checklist of shipments, which needs to be verified via the Rivigo App. This is all a simplified process that takes 5 minutes or less. Not only does this improve the work culture for the drivers, but it is also useful to track and check shipments between pit stops.
Rivigo uses IoT in its tracks as well as the most robust algorithms to keep the supply chain constantly running. The same is utilized in its line of refrigerated food trucks, which allow clients to monitor and maintain the storage condition of their frozen foods as well.
By injecting the latest technology into a traditional sector, Rivigo has managed to revolutionize the work culture of the industry. They have not only positively impacted the drivers but in turn, has led to the meteoric rise of the platform as well. They have completed over half a million trips, have over 70 pit stops and covers almost 30000 PIN Codes. With an estimated valuation of $1.1 Billion and annual revenue of $82.9 Million, with no apparent direct competition. Their unique business model is taking them to new heights every single year.
