Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd., a Japanese automotive components manufacturer, made an investment in EVM-J through its Corporate Venture Capital Department, an internal unit that focuses on making strategic investments in innovative technologies.
EVM-J’s EVs feature a high-efficiency motor control system, designed to minimize power loss during acceleration and deceleration, extend driving range, and reduce battery load, ultimately enhancing battery life. With the acquisition, Toyoda Gosei plans to invest in sustainable transportation solutions.
As EVM-J expands its operations in Japan, the company is establishing the country’s first mass production assembly plant for commercial electric vehicles (EVs) in Kitakyushu City. This plant will be integrated with Zero Emission e-PARK, a complex where all facets of electric vehicles can be explored and experienced. The new facility will help EVM-J to develop a comprehensive production network within Japan.
EVM-J’s commercial EVs are designed with a high-efficiency motor control system that delivers several key advantages. These vehicles are optimized to reduce power loss during acceleration and deceleration, extending the driving range and improving battery life. This innovation also lessens the load on the battery for more sustainable and cost-effective operations for commercial fleet operators.
Since the automotive industry is evidently transforming with the rise of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric), Toyoda Gosei is focusing on sustainability by developing new business sectors and innovations. The company’s investment in EVM-J is part of this strategy, allowing Toyoda Gosei to gain deeper insights into the EV manufacturing process, from development to production.
Toyoda Gosei will benefit from on-site learning, including personnel exchanges with EVM-J and other joint activities through this collaboration. This hands-on experience will enhance Toyoda Gosei’s knowledge of electric mobility and support its ongoing efforts to adapt to the evolving automotive industry, positioning the company for future growth in new business fields.
The investment in EVM-J allows Toyoda Gosei to gain firsthand knowledge of the entire electric vehicle manufacturing process, from development to production, through collaborative activities such as personnel exchanges. This initiative is a key step in the company’s efforts to deepen its expertise in electric mobility.
Toyoda Gosei has also made a strategic investment in Pi Photonics, Inc., a startup specializing in LED lighting technology for industrial applications. The deal is expected to enhance safety across Toyoda Gosei’s global plants while exploring broader uses for Pi Photonics’ advanced products.
