VinaCapital Ventures is the Venture Capital arm of VinaCapital, the leading investment management firm in Vietnam. VinaCapital Ventures is fully focused on Vietnam’s tech startup ecosystem, investing to grow and integrate it into the economy.
VinaCapital Ventures was founded in 2018 by Khanh Tran and is seeded fully by VinaCapital Group, the leading investment management and real estate firm in Vietnam. The firm invests in the domestic tech startup sector, helping them to scale their business and establish a strong presence in the region.
VinaCapital Ventures focuses solely on the technology startups of Vietnam. They have the goal of taking this sector to the next level in Vietnam and integrating it with a modern digital economy in the region. As an emerging economy, such VC firms allow the region to rapidly develop in tech access and integration in the mainstream marketplace.
The firm empowers entrepreneurs by providing them with capital, network, mentorship and other support required for them to scale their company. A wide variety of skills including innovative entrepreneurship, marketing, tech strategy, operational management and process optimization allow their team to assist in raising capital, making deals and expanding the clientele for the firms. The funds seeded by VinaCapital Group, as well as their resources and connections with assets worth over $1.8 Billion form a strong and stable infrastructural foundation to help companies propel themselves to the next stage.
The firm is entirely funded by its parent company and has had a single fund so far, during its inception in 2018. Fund 1, as it was called, raised $100 million for the express purpose of supporting the indigenous tech scene, and bolstering the sector for the future.
VinaCapital Ventures has made 8 investments so far in its short tenure, leading in 6 of them. These investments have been in various indigenous tech companies and were all made as early as series A funds or before.
Its latest investment-backed GoStream, a Vietnamese company that creates tools, products and services for social media users and accounts to interact better with their audience. The company empowers content creators and users to easily convert video URL into live streams that occur simultaneously across platforms, as well as edit and add live effects. VinaCapital backed them in their Series A funding rounds, being the sole sponsor of $1 Million in capital, as announced in January 2021.
They also contributed to the Seed round of Homebase, a real estate platform that provides rent-to-own financing for potential buyers. This round amassed an undisclosed amount, as announced in December 2020.
Their biggest investment to date came in January 2020 in PQC hospitality, an established pioneer in the Hospitality sector of Vietnam. An unknown series was met with a $25 Million investment from the VC firm, making it its largest single investment to date.
In an emerging market like Vietnam, the tech sector has a lot of catching up to do when compared with regions like India and China. A strong regional VC fund supported by an established backer like the VinaCapital group can help bring the accelerated growth that it needs and inject tech into the market at a faster pace. Southeast Asia remains a strong emerging market, and VinaCapital Ventures are a key player in allowing Vietnam to perform well in the region.
