Dragon Capital is Vietnam’s oldest independent Asset Manager, with over two decades of experience in the field. The focus of the platform is on Vietnam as well as other emerging nations of Southeast Asia.
Established in 1994, Dragon Capital started with $16 million worth of capital and eight employees. Today’s it is Vietnam’s most established Asset Management firm with over $4 billion worth of assets, including listed equity, clean-tech, fixed income and real estate for international pension and sovereign wealth funds and endowments.
When the firm started in 1994, Vietnam’s economy was still suffering from the consequences of the US-Vietnam conflict. With a trade embargo placed on them by the US and a minuscule economy producing $227 GDP per Capita, Vietnam was miles behind the world and had no stock market. Dragon Capital was launched on the year the embargo was lifted and has since become the leading private company in the economic development of Vietnam.
Dragon Capital aims to be the biggest intermediary between investors, entrepreneurs and companies, ensuring that the backers get attractive returns on investment, while entrepreneurs and companies gain the necessary resources, networks and assistance to scale their business to reach all of Vietnam and beyond. As a historically significant firm, they continue to work towards the development of the Vietnamese economy, environment and society of the country, striving to push it to become a force in the Southeast Asian region.
They utilize their local market awareness, historical foundation, network as well as international perspectives and methods to pick and choose their investments. Their longevity and experience in the region give them instant high ground, and their decisions are often backed by rigorous research, fluid teamwork, deep financial knowledge, technology and most importantly, their unparalleled experience.
The Vietnam Enterprise Investments Fund Ltd. (VEIL) was established by Dragon Capital in 1995 and is the oldest fund established to support Vietnamese startups and entrepreneurs. It invests in listed and pre-IPO companies that operate in Vietnam and are listed on the Vietnamese Stock Market. VEIL invests in firms as equity securities listed on the Stock Trading Centre of Vietnam, the Hanoi Stock Exchange, or other stock exchanges. They also invest in unlisted equity securities and listed or unlisted debt securities or loan instruments.
VEIL went public in 2016, and is listed on stock exchanges across the world, and is currently capped at just over $2 Billion.
With over 25 years of experience under their belt, Dragon Capital today is worth over $3 billion and is a major player in the Vietnamese economy. In 2019, their 25th year in the industry, the firm partnered up with the University of Exeter to pledge $2.2 Million(£1.6 million) towards the biodiversity economics chair. 2020 saw the merger between Dragon Capital and Vietnam Investment Fund Management Joint Stock Company. The firm has been growing for over 25 years and continues to be a pillar for the Vietnamese economy, attracting investments that propel the country to new heights.
