XSEED Education is a Singapore based EdTech startup that targets the K-12 student demographic. Founded in 2008 by Ashish Rajpal, their focus is enhancing school learning using higher quality proprietary curriculum and training. They are disrupting school level education, particularly the K-8 levels by completely redefining the way teaching is conducted. Their most attractive feature is their swerve from the traditional concept of telling kids what to learn and to do, adopting more modern and integrated teaching methods centred around the student.

XSEED Education -About The Company

XSEED Education is an application-oriented, student-centric education policy that seeks to replace the traditional approach of instructing and telling students to a more effective approach of teaching via concept application. Their focus is the improvement of higher-order thinking skills and analyzing capabilities of students instead of simply mugging up the whole syllabus.

They follow a structured five-step approach of teaching every concept using defined study goals, practical activity, reflective analysis, application of concepts and evaluation. The process was designed with research conducted by alumni of Harvard, MIT, Cambridge and IIM Ahmedabad. This enables children to approach lessons as a way to learn the foundational concepts, assess their skills and utilize their critical thinking. XSEED uses their classroom toolkit with a vast library of learning materials and evaluates students individually based on how strong their skills and application are to provide personalized results and progress reports.

XSEED also partners with schools to assist teachers to teach their students better. Tutors are also equipped with the necessary skills and lessons to improve constantly on their classroom practices, helping the process on both ends of the chain.

Growth And Investments

Since its inception, the company has grown to other countries in the Southeast Asian region. Their course programs are available in many countries and are aligned with the respective board syllabuses of these nations. The platform helps to teach over 1.4 million children across 8 different countries and has shown the ability to scale, innovate, adapt and impact the school system. This has brought in considerable investment into the company, namely in 2 different funds.

Their most recent backer is Verlinvest, who announced their $10 million investment during the firm’s Series B investment rounds. The funding from the Belgian giant has allowed the company to expand its user base, the sphere of influence and the team itself. Their 2019 acquisition of EdTech startup Report Been has also fueled their growth. Report Bee is an Indian startup that specializes in assessment analytics and reporting in schools.

Conclusion

XSEED Education ties its business model, activities and focuses closely on the traditional education system. It approaches the sector through both teachers and students, helping both sides to fulfil their roles better.

By providing students with a platform that promotes learning through application, critical thinking and practice, they are not only teaching them subjects and concepts but also learning how to approach learning all subjects. Coupled with highly personalized evaluations, this can help them at the individual level to improve and become better students.

Teachers are also supported via their platform to improve their teaching techniques, classroom practices and mindset. The platform seeks to change the system by altering the traditional approach to education to a more productive one. Changing the existing system can help utilize the infrastructure more efficiently, producing better results.
