Doyobi is a Singapore based EdTech startup founded in 2020. The platform is led by entrepreneur and angel investor John Tan and was a new adaptation of his eight-year-old coding school startup called Saturday Kids. Currently, it is available to educators only, who can use it to teach the subject to their students.

The platform provides science and coding courses to children in an interactive setting, utilizing videos, projects and quizzes for progression. Their guided courses are used by educators around the world, particularly in the Southeast Asian region, as well as by the Singapore Government and tech giants like Google.

Doyobi -About The Company

Doyobi has its courses structured to allow students to exercise their creative and critical thinking skills to understand and apply concepts. Their programs nurture the knowledge as well as the higher order thinking skills of the student, helping them become better learners across the board while simultaneously developing interest in the course they are learning at the moment.

Their course plan is focused on building a future-oriented scientific and coding foundation for kids. The future scope of these fields require skills beyond what traditional education can offer, and this showcases the need for Doyobi as a platform that provides a competitive edge to the foundation of the students.

The Mission

Doyobi provides instructors with a platform that makes their job easier by giving them the required lesson plans, notes and tools required to guide students towards a focused goal. The firm leverages technology to make teaching easier, automating and digitizing a lot of labour oriented processes like note preparation and student evaluations. Doyobi powered classrooms allow teachers to focus more on interacting with the students, optimizing the teaching process. The platform makes their jobs much easier and offers them more to work with than they would have in a traditional setting.

Doyobi also offers tools for teachers to control the learning rate and progress for students, allowing them more freedom or to capture their attention to specific parts if necessary. They can let students explore the syllabus themselves, concentrate on specific points of interest, and continue with classes in a synchronized manner using the free, lock and sync buttons respectively. They also provide reports and charts that can show the progress of each student in real-time, allowing you to monitor and adjust accordingly.

The Growth Curve

Most traditional classrooms are focused on a wider and more basic syllabus that spans an expansive array of subjects including language, social sciences and science among others. In such a setting, powering classrooms with Doyobi helps teachers to help students more in the scientific field, as well as teach them coding skills that permeate almost all fields of higher education and careers.

For this reason, the company was also a focal point for many investors. Their Pre-Seed round of investments announced on August 18 last year attracted an investment of $1 Million from investors. Its backers include prominent VC firm 500 Startups and XA Network as lead investors, alongside 8 others.

Conclusion

The firm aims to disrupt the traditional classroom setting to equip students with a more futuristic skillset and develop coding skills early. Doyobi is injecting technology into a field that tends to follow age-old customs, saving time, money, energy and the future in the long term.
