Grab Malaysia has teamed up with Yinson GreenTech, Power-Up Tech, and BYD Sime Motors to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) among its driver-partners. Through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), the collaboration seeks to provide affordable EV options for Grab’s fleet partners while expanding charging infrastructure.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Grab’s headquarters by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong. Senior executives from Yinson GreenTech, Power-Up Tech, Sime Motors, and Grab also attended the event. Under the agreement, Yinson GreenTech will be Grab’s official EV leasing partner, facilitating the integration of sustainable mobility solutions into the ride-hailing industry.
Grab Malaysia’s Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Rashid Shukor, highlighted that the partnership supports Malaysia’s sustainability goals and provides driver-partners with greener transport options. He emphasized that working with key industry players will accelerate EV adoption, benefiting both communities and the environment.
Liew Chin Tong, deputy minister of investment, trade, and industry, attended the signing ceremony and stated that the transition to EVs requires strong cooperation between the government and private sector. He noted that the MoU marks a key milestone in Malaysia’s green mobility efforts, aligning with government initiatives such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, which provide tax incentives and financial support for EV adoption.
As part of the collaboration, Yinson GreenTech will provide Grab with EV leasing packages, starting with the deployment of 10 BYD M6 units. These packages include preferential charging fees, vehicle maintenance services and, competitive leasing rates. Additionally, Yinson GreenTech will offer fleet management tools and insights on EV performance while exploring opportunities to expand charging infrastructure at strategic locations.
Yinson GreenTech CEO Lim Chern Yuan cited the company’s experience electrifying the logistics sector. He also discussed the company’s plans to help businesses improve efficiency and reduce costs through electrification, ultimately contributing to Malaysia’s broader transport electrification efforts.
Grab’s broader sustainability initiatives is about minimizing environmental impact while enhancing social benefits. The company continues working with stakeholders to advance green mobility solutions, ensuring driver-partners have access to affordable and practical EV options.
Grab Malaysia works closely with government agencies and industry leaders to advance the country’s EV ecosystem. The initiative builds on its earlier partnership with BYD, announced in January 2025, to increase EV adoption in the region.
By integrating Yinson GreenTech’s expertise in sustainable mobility with its ride-hailing platform, Grab aims to provide driver-partners with seamless access to EVs while reducing environmental impact. The company views this partnership as a critical move toward a cleaner, greener future.
