Vietnamese edtech startup Galaxy Education (GE) has raised nearly US$10 million in a funding round led by East Ventures, with participation from other investors. The deal stands out as one of the largest edtech investments in Vietnam, especially during a period of downturn across the sector.
The company plans to utilize the fresh capital to expand its nationwide English as a Second Language (ESL) program, with a focus on public schools and underserved areas. The initiative aims to address teacher shortages and improve learning outcomes through its Online-Merge-Offline (OMO) model.
The new funding will be used to scale Galaxy Education’s national English language initiative, which is aligned with the Vietnamese government’s push to improve English proficiency nationwide. The program targets public schools and underserved communities, aiming to close gaps in teacher availability and student outcomes through its Online-Merge-Offline (OMO) model.
At the core of the initiative is GE’s proprietary ICAN platform, which uses AI to tailor lessons to each student and provide adaptive support for teachers. The technology enables GE to deliver high-quality education at scale, striking a balance between personalization and affordability.
Galaxy Education’s profitability stands out in Southeast Asia’s edtech market, where many companies continue to face losses. The firm reported positive EBITDA in its K-12 vertical from April 2024 and became profitable across all operations by Q1 2025.
Founded in 2020 through the acquisition of HOCMAI, a leading K-12 education platform, Galaxy Education has continued to grow through targeted acquisitions. In 2023, it acquired FUNiX, Vietnam’s first online university, expanding into adult education and upskilling.
Today, the company operates three key brands: HOCMAI for school-level learning, ICAN for language and foundational tech skills, and FUNiX for vocational and digital education. This structure supports learners at every stage, from early education to workforce readiness.
Galaxy Education takes a vertically integrated approach, covering curriculum development, tech infrastructure, teacher training, and classroom delivery. This full-stack model has helped the company maintain quality and efficiency as it scales.
As of early 2025, GE has reached over 8 million learners across Vietnam and in 34 other countries. Backed by its strong execution, government alignment, and profitable growth, the company is emerging as a rare success story in Southeast Asia’s edtech space.
