The fifth edition of COMEUP 2023, South Korea’s largest startup festival, concluded at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, solidifying its position as a leading global startup event. The three-day extravaganza, held from November 8 to 10, witnessed an unprecedented attendance of 66,000 participants, both online and offline, establishing a new record.
Global Participation & Diverse Discussions
Representatives from 35 countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE, the United States, France, Austria, Hong Kong, Senegal, and Cambodia, converged at COMEUP 2023. The festival served as a dynamic platform for startups, investors, government agencies, and global corporations, fostering international collaboration.
Influential figures from Viva Technology, NVIDIA, AWS, and SOSV contributed to the event’s vibrancy. Notable government officials, including UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri and Saudi SME Authority Chairman Sami bin Ibrahim Al-Hussaini, highlighted the importance of discussions on cooperation between Korea and startups.
Global Community Zone & Insights on Startup Growth
The newly introduced zone featured booths and presentations from 18 participating teams, offering insights into Korea’s startup ecosystem’s global openness through a policy proposal presentation.
The ‘Future Talk’ program featured about 70 speakers discussing key startup growth issues, including the latest technologies such as Chat GPT and generative AI. Sessions celebrated the 20th anniversary of open innovation, delving into discussions on Google’s support for women entrepreneurs and successful collaboration cases.
COMEUP Stars 2023 & Business Matching Success
The startup pitching competition, revamped to focus on early-stage startups, featured about 80 startup teams. INTEKMEDI emerged as the most outstanding company, selected through comprehensive evaluations. COMEUP facilitated over 1,000 pre-event and on-site business matching outcomes, transcending borders, time, and space constraints.
Sungjin Choi, Chairman of COMEUP Executive Committee, stated, “COMEUP 2023 not only increased the overall scale of participants but also saw a significant increase in on-site and global participants, making it even more impactful.” He emphasized COMEUP’s role as a global festival connecting startup ecosystems, foreseeing its continued impact on the startup landscape.
