AsiaTechDaily – Asia's Leading Tech and Startup Media Platform
AsiaTechDaily is pleased to announce Maaike Doyer, Founder of Epic Angels, as its Investor of the Month for April 2025. Based in the US and Singapore, she has been a driving force behind efforts to make angel investing more accessible and inclusive for women across the Asia-Pacific region.
Maaike co-founded Epic Angels in 2020 with a clear goal: to democratize angel investing and activate a new wave of female investors. Since then, the network has grown into one of Asia’s leading women-led angel communities, with over 600 members from 35 countries and more than 32 startup investments across sectors such as healthtech, fintech, and sustainability. Epic Angels focuses on education, community, and collaborative investing, enabling women to begin their investment journeys with smaller capital commitments and a strong support system.
The motivation behind Epic Angels emerged from Maaike’s own experience transitioning from Silicon Valley to Singapore. When she attempted to join traditional angel networks, she was told the minimum investment per deal was $25,000–$50,000—an amount she believed excluded many potential investors and prevented effective portfolio diversification. Instead of accepting the norm, she started her own network with three like-minded women. Within six weeks, they made their first investment.
“I realized there was a gap in activating female investors,” Maaike said in a recent interview with AsiaTechDaily. “That’s where we found our unique strength: creating a vibrant community of women investing in the change they want to see in the world.”
Beyond providing access to investment opportunities, Epic Angels serves as an education platform that demystifies the angel investing process through practical, jargon-free resources and peer learning. The group encourages first-time investors to start before they feel fully ready and to learn by doing—an approach that has lowered the entry barrier for many professionals outside the traditional finance world.
“Start small but start,” Maaike advised. “You don’t need to understand every aspect of angel investing before making your first move.”
In recognition of her work, AsiaTechDaily will host a special online event Innovation Exchange Program with Maaike Doyer on April 30 at 8:00 AM SGT. This session will be open to both startup founders and aspiring investors, with a focus on engaging more women in investment decision-making. Maaike will share insights on identifying early-stage opportunities, building an investment thesis, and supporting founders beyond capital.
The event will also spotlight the importance of increasing female participation in the investment ecosystem—not only to bridge the global $1.7 trillion financing gap for women-led businesses, but also to bring diverse perspectives into funding decisions. She believes that broadening who writes the checks will directly influence what innovations receive support.
This is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and investors alike to learn from someone who is actively reshaping the early-stage investment landscape. More event details and registration information will be shared in the coming days.
AsiaTechDaily looks forward to continuing its conversations with investors who are shaping the future of entrepreneurship in Asia—and to supporting a more inclusive startup ecosystem.
