Grab has recently announced the recent appointment of Adelene Foo as the new Managing Director of Grab Malaysia.
In a statement, Grab, a leading everyday superapp in Southeast Asia, said that Foo is tasked to oversee the implementation of their business strategies and operations in Malaysia.
Foo, who has been with Grab for 10 years now, is expected to bring to Grab Malaysia a track record of launching and scaling various businesses regionally and contribute a positive and long-term impact on the local communities.
“Adelene’s proven credentials and entrepreneurial spirit in scaling and growing Grab across Southeast Asia fits perfectly for this next phase of growth for Grab in Malaysia and I’m so excited to welcome her back to the country leadership team,” said Russell Cohen, Group Managing Director of Operations at Grab.
Grab, according to Cohen, has evolved tremendously over the past 10 years as they also introduced new services and features in their superapp.
He said that the company is now more focused on building amazing products and services to help the Malaysian community to earn, ride, eat, shop and access financial services.
With her deep experience in setting up the local team and meeting the daily needs of the Malaysians, Foo is expected to continue to grow the company’s Mobility, Deliveries and on-demand groceries.
She is also set to lead the acceleration of the growth of the GrabFin as it continues to become the stronger service player in Malaysia.
Foo said that she is very excited and honoured to have been chosen to lead Grab Malaysia.
She said that the team has made impressive strides over the years as they are now considered as the leading superapp that addresses the daily needs of the Malaysians.
Under her leadership, Grab is committed to provide long-term development in Malaysia.
Foo said that she also looks forward to working with the team to focus on introducing more access to the best services that they offer.
She also wanted to create more earning opportunities for their partners and help more micro-entrepreneurs digitise and grow. At the same time, Foo said that she also wanted to continue to train more talents to support Malaysia’s growth in the digital economy.
A ten-year veteran at Grab, Foo was also the Country Head in Malaysia from 2012-2014 before she was given regional roles. Just recently, she was named the Regional Head of Merchants & Regional Head of GrabExpress as well as newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer.
Foo succeeds Sean Goh, who will now assume the position of Grab’s Regional Head of Deliveries and Mobility.
But despite her appointment as the new Country Head in Malaysia, Foo will still continue to lead Jaya Grocer as its Chief Executive Officer to realise synergies across Jaya Grocer and the Grab ecosystem. This set up is expected to provide seamless experience for Jaya customers and bring the convenience of on-demand grocery delivery to more consumers in Malaysia.
Before she joined Grab, Foo was a consultant at Accenture Management Consulting as part of the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) practice.
