Philippine telecommunications company Globe has reported a significant increase in its mobile revenues for the first half of 2021.

Their mobile data already accounted for 73% of its revenues compared to the 69% in the same period in 2020.

Its total mobile subscriber base also grew by 2% to 81.7 million.

According to a statement by the company, ongoing network upgrades to 4G LTE coupled with efforts to expand 5G in the country are also helping the adoption of mobile data by giving internet access to more people.

Darius Delgado, Globe Head of Consumer Mobile Business, said the latest findings are aligned with their efforts to bring “first-world connectivity to more Filipinos to further enrich their digital lifestyle”.

“We foresee this rapid digitization to continue beyond these pandemic times, thus our ongoing efforts to increase our 4G LTE footprint and expand our 5G network,” Delgado said in a statement.

Globe also continuously invests in its network to carry the most advanced technologies like 4G LTE and 5G to assure its customers of network consistency.

It has installed at least 641 new cell towers in strategic locations all over the country and upgraded 8,175 mobile sites to 4G LTE.

It has also built 1,906 5G sites nationwide as of end-September, and laid down over one million high-speed broadband lines to date.

A study conducted by Globaldata, a leading data and analytics company in the UK, also showed that total mobile services revenue in the Philippines would hit US$5.4 billion by 2026 from the expected US$4.1 billion this year.

GlobalData telecom analyst Harika Damidi said 4G subscriptions will surpass 3G in 2021. This is driven by the ongoing 4G/LTE network expansions and increase in the availability of 4G-enabled smartphones.

The same study also emphasized that 5G services are expected to account for 22.5 percent of total mobile subscriptions by end-2026 in the Philippines.

Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO, said they are proud that they are able to bring 4G and 5G technologies within reach of every Filipino.
