LexMeet is a Filipino app that helps common folks gain access to legal assistance and services.

Founded in December 2016 by Marlon Valderama, Lexmeet is an online app available for the public to use. It is a legal tech platform that helps users connect with lawyers and professionals for legal advice and assistance. The Mobile App was launched in 2020. and allows users to get legal advice and access to competent lawyers in an easy and affordable setting. Though it was founded as a platform to cater to the clients of the founder, which included non-resident Filipinos, SMEs and Startups, it is also a cure to the problems of common Filipinos with the legal system. The country has a vast population of people who find the system to be cumbersome, inefficient, expensive and even intimidating. LexMeet makes getting legal assistance quicker and easier, helping more people to opt for it and effectively democratizing the system.

The Platform

LexMeet offers its services via the website as well as the mobile app so that clients can use it over any internet connection. The mobile app was released in 2020 and allows mobile access for users to consult and request assistance from Legal professionals. The platform has on-demand online consultation facilities via video conference, stellar lawyer recommendations based on location, dialect and skill, verified professionals to cater to your legal needs, and secure modes of payment, These features make it the ideal platform for legal assistance from start to finish.

Products And Services

The platform has three main services, out of which two are free and one requires payment. Once users sign up for LexMeet, they can use these services to stay informed on laws and legal proceedings, get free initial assistance and even personalized consultation for a fee.

Their ‘Everyday Law’ is a legal newsletter-cum-media platform tackling laws and legal proceedings. This contains free articles and videos made by legal experts on various laws and related subjects. Users can explore this section for free to stay informed about the field or look up details on issues that they may be facing in their life.

They also have an ‘Assist’ service which gives free, crowdsourced initial assessments to the user’s queries in under 24 hours. These assessments are to determine whether the legal issue requires a lawyer or filing a case, and are sourced from over 600 lawyers voting on the query.

The platform also has a ‘Consult’ option through which users can talk directly to lawyers for a fee. The consultation will be via video conference at the client’s convenience. The algorithm recommends clients the best lawyers based on region, expertise, and other factors.

The Verdict

While LexMeet is an innovative company that helps clients gain access to services online, it is also a possible solution for a social issue of the country. The Philippines is a developing nation that is stifled by a lack of legal awareness for the public. Numerous contributing factors make a chunk of the population averse to going to courts and consulting lawyers. There is also an issue with accessibility and legal illiteracy, which magnifies the problem. LexMeet is a digital cure to this ancient disease, as the platform helps to democratize legal services. It is especially relevant during the times of Covid-19, due to the rising popularity of online services.
