Stormseal is a new form of a weatherproof coating that can be used in construction to protect damaged roofs or buildings. There are a wide variety of types as well as specific applications and are used to protect constructed elements from all kinds of weather phenomena including rains, storms, hail, flood and others.

Introduction

Invented by Australian Builder Matthew Lennox, Stormseal was an innovative solution to a common problem found in construction. As someone who oversaw repairs and rebuilding on behalf of insurance service providers, he observed that many claimed damages tend to aggravate over time.

Australia’s storms tend to damage construction like roofs and building structures, and these were covered up using tarpaulin. The frequent failure of these traps, along with persisting bad weather meant that the damage will further increase, sometimes up to multiple times before insurance could verify the claims.

Stormseal: The Product

Stormseal is a patented invention that resembles a plastic film or cling wrap. It is a polyethylene film that heat shrinks to securely wrap a damaged roof or structure, according to the Stormseal website. It has many notable advantages over tarpaulin and has weatherproofed over 9000 buildings.

Unlike tarp, Stormseal holds in place and protects damaged structures without any kind of ropes, weights, binding or fasteners. This film shrinks to envelop the covered structure, effectively weatherproofing it better than any traditional methods. They offer protection against a wide variety of weather conditions and are stronger, more durable and cost-effective.

The Business Model

Stormseal aims to corner the insurance market, as the product effectively reduces damage, and in turn, the cost of covering these damages. In the 2007 Australian storm, Sydney was peppered with huge hailstones which caused estimated damage worth $486 million. A chunk of this was due to the ineffective cover-up of these damages, which aggravated them. Stormseal aims to take over this market and has popularized itself as the best interim solution for these companies.

The product itself is leaps and bounds above traditional methods. Stormseal can be cut and fitted to custom roofs and structures, unlike tarps that come in squares only. They are also easier to install, last longer requires almost no follow-up maintenance and are enduring against any kind of weather conditions. These exclusive advantages have not only made them more popular among users, but also the best option for insurance companies.

Growth and Funding

As an award-winning invention that disrupted the traditional market for the better, Stormseal is a simple solution for a problem that has been around forever. They have received praise as well as financial support from the Australian federal government, with over $450000 obtained as a government-sponsored grant. This money will allow the company to boost production to meet commercial demands, and expand to capture more of the market.

Conclusion

Stormseal outperforms its traditional alternatives and is changing the construction industry, especially in damage control to key elements such as roofs. Trained professionals can use it to help provide better protection than any alternative could offer. In such a niche industry, Stormseal has carved out its space with an innovative product that screams that simple is often better.
