Global venture capital investor 500 Global takes the lead in a $1.2 million Seed funding round for WeGoWhere, a Thailand-based social networking platform committed to enhancing offline social interactions.
The round also saw participation from Goodwater Capital, Wing Vasiksiri, Peng T. Ong (co-founder of Match.com), and existing investor Antler, according to an announcement.
WeGoWhere, established in 2020 by Ty Lertwichaiworawit and Mint Leung, seeks to revolutionize how people socialize, facilitating in-person connections over passive online interactions. This Thailand-based platform has quickly amassed a vibrant community of over 300,000 users.
Unlike traditional social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram, WeGoWhere said it encourages users to share their upcoming plans, allowing friends to join in. The platform streamlines the entire process of planning and organizing meetups, making it easy for friends to connect in real life.
“The way social media is built today, it’s a recap of the past,” explained Ty Lertwichaiworawit, CEO & Co-founder of WeGoWhere. “We designed WeGoWhere to reflect how we actually socialize in real life – we tell our friends about our plans so they can join too.”
The investment from 500 Global and others will fuel the expansion of WeGoWhere into new Southeast Asian markets, further product innovation, and an enhanced user experience.
“We love sticking to our screens. There are apps for that. But we love seeing each other in real life too! WeGoWhere can help with both!” shared Khailee Ng, Managing Partner of 500 Global. “Ty and her team are redefining what a connected world means for everyone.”
WeGoWhere’s success, including an average of 28 minutes spent on the app daily and an impressive Day 30 retention rate of 79%, signals the growing demand for platforms that foster real-time, authentic connections in our increasingly digital world.
This funding round underscores 500 Global’s commitment to innovative startups that redefine the way people interact and connect, marking an exciting new chapter for WeGoWhere’s journey towards revolutionizing social networking.
